They’re back! The bane of our summers….namely: mosquitoes. How do we know they’ve arrived? A little red mark or two, swollen and itchy, gives them away! There is nothing more annoying than a mosquito bite, because not only does it swell and itch, but also because you find them in the least likely of places. Here are a few remedies to relieve and reduce itching, swelling or even pain.

  • Ice: Apply an ice pack to the area to reduce itching.
  • Tea tree oil: Apply directly to the sting.
  • Apple cider vinegar: Spray the vinegar to the area or apply cotton wool soaked in the vinegar to have less of an urge to scratch.
  • Honey straight from the honeycomb: Dab a droplet of honey to the sting and rub into the skin.
  • A used tea bag: After having made a cup of tea, the tea bag can be re-used and applied (cold) to the bite. That soothes itching and reduces redness.
  • Bicarbonate of soda: Make a paste with water and bicarbonate of soda. Rub it in to the bite to remove all itching.
  • Witch Hazel: Rub it directly to the bite.
  • Mint: Rub crushed mint leaves to the skin to reduce itching and to protect your skin from further mosquito bites.
  • Banana: Place a slice of banana on the bite to reduce pain.
  • Aloe vera: Rub aloe vera gel to the mosquito bite to reduce redness and swelling.
