If you drink a lot of coffee, it will not have escaped you: the coffee grounds are a mess! We throw it in the trash after using it when in fact, we can use it again in our daily life. It can help you clean your interior, it can fight off odors, you can use it in your garden, … In short the uses are multiple so before throwing it, look at all you can do with it!
Against smells
1) For the fridge
Dry the coffee onto parchment paper and put it into a bowl and place into the fridge. This will permit to remove any odors from the fridge as well as prevent smells.
2) For the hands
When cooking it can often leave nasty smells on the hands. To remove any smells, keep used coffee grounds in a box next to the sink and take a small quantity in your hands whilst you wash your hands. The grains will help remove any smells.
For fishermen
3) To have beautiful worms
If you have a bed of worms at home, be aware that the best mixture to have fatty worms is compost made up of coffee and horse manure.
In the garden
4) For a rich and good quality compost
Be aware that the coffee grounds are rich in potassium, magnesium and phosphorus among others and that in addition to being acid, it releases nitrogen by degrading. It’s all perfect for you soil!
5) Use to boost your vegetables
Before planting carrots or radish seeds, mix them with coffee grounds: this will double your crops! By generously spreading on the flowerbeds, plants that like acidity such as rhododendrons, azaleas or hydrangeas will allow you to obtain beautiful blooms. Many seedlings will benefit from this welcome nitrogen intake.
6) A gardeners soap
Melt soap with glycerine and add some coffee grounds. Mix well and put everything back into a mould to get a soap that scratches the soil, dirt, … Your hands will be ultra clean after gardening!
Against insects or pests
7)Get rid of small animals
Sprinkle places where you do not want ants, snails or slugs with coffee grounds. You can even use it on the anthill.
8) Against cockroaches
Put some moist coffee grounds at the bottom of a can. Then cover the can with double sided sticky tape. They will be attracted by the smell and will end up trapped.
