We can’t help ourselves from adding a few cloves of delicious garlic to the barbecue. But we pay the price afterwards with horrendous garlic breath! And if we take comfort from the fact that our partner has eaten it as well (all is equal when it comes to the kiss!), there comes a time when we want to get rid of it, and that is not an easy thing to do. Brushing your teeth doesn’t always do the trick (although maybe we could improve matters by scrubbing the tongue, given that 60% of the bacteria in the mouth is on the surface of the tongue). Here are our tips to help you go back into society, without worrying about what your breath smells like.
1) Parsley: Slowly chew some fresh parsley, or take it as a tea.
2) Whole milk: Drink it during your meal to avoid bad breath. This was proven to work in a study in 2010 by researchers in the department of Food, Science and Technology in Ohio University.
3) Cinnamon: You can use it as a mouthwash to purify the mouth and mask garlicky odours, or slowly sip on a cinnamon infusion after the meal.
4) Green tea: Drink a cup of green tea.

5) Aniseed: Eat a little aniseed at the end of your meal.
6) Bicarbonate of soda: Brush your teeth after the meal and rinse with a mouthwash made from a mixture of warm water and bicarbonate of soda.
7) Lemon: We can use fresh lemon juice on our hands to get rid of the smell of garlic and wash them afterwards in soapy water. You can also drink sparkling water that you have infused with lemon or flavoured with lemon juice.

8) Coffee: Chew two coffee beans. You can also do this with cardamom seeds.
9) Cloves: Chew one or two cloves. You can also infuse a teaspoon of ground cloves in a cup of water to make an infusion or an effective mouthwash.
10) Mint: Mint chewing gum is a classic. We can also infuse a few fresh mint leaves to make a tea, or go for a peppermint tea.

11) Apple: Apples contain polyphenols that suppress the sulfur compounds contained in garlic.
12) Sugar-free yoghurt: Consume about 180 g of sugar-free yoghurt to eliminate the hydrogen sulfur that causes bad breath.
13) Mustard: Rinse your mouth with a teaspoon of mustard, spit it out, and then swallow a half a teaspoon of mustard.

14) Fennel: Take a dessertspoon of fennel after your meal or make an infusion with a teaspoon of fennel in hot water and drink it slowly.
15) Basil: Chew a few basil leaves after a very garlicky meal.
