As everyone knows, water is an indispensable resource. We consume so much water daily that it is becoming a limited resource. Estimates vary, but the average person consumes 80-100 gallons of water every day -three times more than 30 years ago. It is important to learn how to conserve water. Here are a few simple tips to save on water in your daily life.
– Detecting leaks ensures you avoid waste, as leaks considerably increase the amount of water you use.
– Washing fruit and vegetables in a bowl or basin is an excellent way of avoiding over-consumption of water. Once your fruit or veg is perfectly clean, re-use the water for watering plants.
– Wash the dishes in an environmentally friendly manner, by filling the sink with soapy water, rather than letting the tap run while you wash.
– Save water in the toilet by placing a volume-reducing object in the cistern (sometimes a brick or a bottle filled with water will do the trick).
– Re-use cooking water or from your aquarium to water plants.
– Recover rain water, which is also very useful for watering plants or giving to pets.
– Turn off the water source in your home while you go on holidays, in order to avoid water running during your absence.
– Take showers instead of baths because a shower uses on average 50 litres of water, in comparison to 150 litres for a bath.
