It has happened to everyone: we’re extremely proud to be wearing our stylish new pair of shoes, but we realise with horror in the corridor (a quiet one, of course) that the shoes are squeaking their way throughout the day. It’s never a small discreet noise either, most of the time it’s a blasting sound that can be heard with every small movement. As annoying as it is embarrassing, here are 2 solutions to remedy the problem -because it would be a shame to leave your shiny new shoes hidden away in the press!
What you need:
- Talcum powder
OU
- WD-40 (a penetrating oil and water displacing spray that can also prevent rust in electrical circuits)
The two techniques:
With talc (a classic method, but which may not always do the trick)
1) Identify the source of the squeaking. Is it from the laces rubbing? Or does it come from the sole of the shoe? Or could it even be the insole?
2) Remove the insole before applying if necessary. Apply the talc to the problem area.
3) Leave to work for several minutes before putting everything back in place.
4) Try it out! If the noise is gone, great! If not, try the second method below.
With WD-40 (Surprising and effective)
1) Identify the source of the squeaking. Is it from the laces rubbing? Or does it come from the sole of the shoe? Or could it even be the insole?
2) Remove the insole before applying if necessary. Spray a little oil into the shoe wherever you think the noise is coming from.
3) Leave to work for 5 minutes before putting everything back in place. No more noise!
