You don’t have to be sporty to develop tendonitis. This inflammation of the tendon is very common and can happen to anyone. The pain can vary and it takes a while to heal. Here are three of Granny’s Tips that will prove their worth.

1) Wintergreen oil (AKA Boxberry/Checkerberry oil)

This shrub is well known for its effects on inflammation. Its analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties are valuable assets in the case of tendonitis, but also for back pain and fever, among other ailments.

You simply need to take some wintergreen essential oil and mix two drops with a dessertspoon of vegetable oil (olive oil, macadamia oil or arnica oil) to gently massage into the site of pain. Repeat two or three times a day until your symptoms ease.

Contra-indicted for: children, pregnant or breastfeeding women, people with epilepsy or aspirin allergies.

2) Arnica

We are used to using arnica for bruises, but its anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects are also fantastic for tendonitis. The ointment alone can bring relief, but don’t hesitate to also try arnica vegetable oil mixed with Italian Helichrysum essential oil (also known as Immortal essential oil).

To make the mix (which you should apply locally twice daily), pour two dessertspoons of arnica vegetable oil into a container and add 12 drops of Immortal essential oil. Mix well.

Please note that this treatment is not suitable for children or pregnant women.

3) Green clay

We know the benefits of green clay for our skin, but we are less familiar with its health benefits, although many people use it frequently for muscle pains or even in the cases of diarrhea, sinisitus and sprains. It is also excellent for tendonitis.

You can buy it ready made or add a little water to some crushed dried clay (3-4 dessertspoons) and allow it to sit for two hours before mixing and and applying in a generous layer using a sterile compress or a clean cloth. Wrap the area in a bandage to keep the mixture in place for 60 minutes. Repeat if necessary.
