4 Tips on how to clean your handbag

5/5 - (1 vote)

The handbag is essential in an outfit, it can add a touch of style and carry everything we need to survive in the “urban jungle” or work. But when you think about it, it also carries a lot of bacteria and dirt because of what you put there and the places where you put it. Phone, pens, wallets, lipsticks, glasses cases, dust, germs, dirt and “hands full of fingers” make a funny mix of bacteria. Here are some ideas for having a beautiful all-clean bag!

  • Remember to clean the inside regularly to reduce contamination. To do this, go for antibacterial wipes or cotton swabs soaked in alcohol. Avoid touching your bag or rummaging inside after putting cream to avoid putting grease into the lining.

For the exterior :

  • For a plastic or imitation leather bag, you can prepare a basin of soapy warm water and a soft cloth that you moisten slightly before cleaning. Do not forget the handles and the lining! With another damp, soap-free cloth, remove the remaining dirt.
  • For a leather bag, use cotton wool soaked in make-up remover or moisturising milk and change the cotton when it is dirty. Wipe the bag in the direction of the leather with a clean cloth. Then depending on its color you can opt for vinegar water (bright color), a woolen rag and a beaten eggwhites (light color) to gently polish it by making circular movements. Finally, wipe with a clean cloth.

Other tips:

  • When you do not use your bag, fill it all the way so that it can keep its shape and it does not shrivel due to the void vacuum. You can also put it in a pillowcase or a canvas protective cover to protect the leather from dust.
