Lice are an absolute nightmare especially when you spy your first nit crawling through your kids hair. The timing of outbreaks sometimes coincides with the start of school in many places and it makes it very difficult to combat this with your children. Once you come down with an infestation, it is really complicated to get rid of it. Many lice have become drug resistant even if head lice treatment has come on leaps and bounds in the last few years. Here are some chemical-free tricks to get rid of them and keep them away.

1) Mayonnaise shampoo

Massage your scalp with Mayo and allow this to sit on your hair for 2 hours. Then, rinse it off and wash your hair with shampoo. Comb your hair to get rid of lice and nits.

2) Onion juice shampoo

Onion juice contains sulphur. Cut a few onions into pieces and collect their juice by pressing them with a colander. Use this juice on your hair and let it sit for 3 hours. Then wash your hair as usual. You can repeat this for the next days to make sure it works.

3) Oil + Vinegar

Mix together as much oil as vinegar in a bowl and massage this on your dry hair. Wrap a towel on your hair for about 20 min. Comb your hair and wash it with your shampoo.

4) Extra virgin olive oil and lavender

In a spray, put olive oil and a few drops of lavender essential oil. Spray this on your hair and cover with a swimming cap or plastic wrap. Wait for 1 hour before combing the hair and washing it.

5) Baking soda

Put baking soda on the hair and massage it on the scalp for about 5 to 10 min. Then comb your hair and wash it. Be careful, don’t get it on your eyes!
