9 Tricks to stop hiccups

5/5 - (2 votes)

The hiccup is a de-synchronization of the respiratory movements which is uncontrollable and is marked by a spasmodic contraction of the diaphragm and a brutal closure of the glottis. However, I would define the hiccup as a super repetitive “trick” that always happens at the worst moment (for example during an important meeting with the boss, during a great silence in crowded transport or while you are at an appointment with an attractive person to whom you would like to impress) and which it is difficult to get rid of. We all know the technique of drinking upside down or holding our breath (where we have almost choked and died trying) or the technique of asking someone to scare us (but since we expect it , it really does not work) and we were able to realize … that all these tricks is useless!

Here are 9 effective techniques to combat hiccups.

Trick 1: Ingest a spoonful of sugar

Swallowing a spoonful of sugar is a delicious method of stimulating the vagus nerve (a long nerve that starts from the brain and ends up in the abdomen). The granulated sugar will allow to confuse the nerve so that it concentrates less on the diaphragm and more on the throat.

Trick 2: Swallow something containing acid

A teaspoon of vinegar can help rid hiccups

Trick 3: Chew a large spoonful of peanut butter

Trick 4: Swallow a bit of spicy sauce

A little like the trick of trying to get scared, the effect of spice on your tongue will permit you from forgetting you have the hiccups and this distraction will stop the hiccups.

Trick 5: Get out the honey

With a spoonful of honey diluted with some hot water and placed on the tongue will bring to a stop your hiccups.

Trick 6: Swallow some Cocoa powder

The same principle as sugar, but so much yummier!

Trick 7: Breath into a paper bag

This trick- to be done with caution- Cette astuce —Makes it possible to ingest carbon dioxide. If the CO2 level becomes high, your system will cause your diaphragm to contract for oxygen.

Trick 8: Take a little dill!

The effort to chew a spoon of dill seeds will stimulate the vagus nerve

Trick 9 : The paper napkin

Trying to drink through a paper towel is an effort to combat spasms. Quickly, the hiccups eventually disappear.

Lots of tricks and tips to combat against hiccups!
