Boils are unpleasant red spots with a yellowy puss filled centre. Caused by an infected hair follicle and surrounding skin, boils are commonly found on areas that rub. However this just makes the boil even more painful. No part of your body is spared as they can often be found on your bottom, shoulders, back, armpits, bikini line, thighs and even your face. Here are our natural boil remedies to relieve the pain and to get rid of them for good!
1) Basic advice
- It is easy to be tempted into using irritant products like soaps and detergents. Although it might seem like a good idea these products should be avoided.
- Always make sure you rinse yourself well after taking a shower or bath.
- Rubbing doesn’t help the situation. Choose loose fitting clothing to avoid getting boils.
- It is contagious so it is important to keep up good hygiene standards. Before your apply a treatment make sure you wash your hands and change your towel every day. (Wash your towels at a high temperature). You should wash your body everyday and keep your nails cut short.
- Lastly, although it is tempting, don’t squeeze the boil and avoid scratching or touching it.
2) Helpful essential oils
There are two essential oils that can be a great help in getting rid of boils :
- You can apply lavender essential oil on the boil several times per day;
- Linalol thyme is anti-infectious and antimycotic so it can be applied onto a boil every morning and night for a week.
3) Useful plants: Burdock
This plant helps to prevent fungus and bacteria from developing however it shouldn’t be used on children under the age of 15 years old. All you need to do is to make an herbal infusion with 5 g of dried leaves into a litre of boiling water. Leave for 10 minutes so that the leaves can infuse. Drink two mugs per day.
4) Bicarbonate of Soda
Did you think that we could write an article with taking about Bicarbonate of Soda…. never! It is a miracle ingredient!
Make a paste from three doses of bicarbonate of soda to one dose of mineral water. Cover the boil with this mixture and then leave to sit for 30 minutes . You should do this twice per day so that the boil can disappear for good.
5) Illite Clay
If you were wondering what is the most effective remedy of all of these natural remedies this is without a doubt the remedy you should try. Illite clay cleanses the affected area completely. Just apply it as a cold poultice and repeat when it gets hot.
To make the poulice your can put the powdered clay into a wooden, stoneware or porcelain pot. Cover the powdered clay with pure water and then wait a while until the mixture is neither too thick nor too liquid. So that the poulice is even more effective there is nothing stopping you from putting a bit of lemon juice or a drop of lavender essential oil into your mixture. With the help of a spatula, line a clean piece of fabric with the mixture measuring 2 to 3 cm. Place the cloth on to the affected zone with the clay side against your skin and then stick down without tightening too excessively.
6) Magnesium chloride
Dilute 20 g of magnesium chloride in one litre of water. You can soak a piece of cotton wool or cloth with this mixture and then apply it onto the boil. You can also drink a glass both morning and night.
