How to clean wooden kitchen utensils

5/5 - (1 vote)

Wooden utensils are very common in modern kitchens. As classic as the kitchen knife, the wooden spoon is the ideal utensil for cooking and baking. Wooden utensils don’t damage pots and pans while stirring food, and they don’t conduct heat. However, if we use them, we must clean them, which can shorten their lifespan. Here is how to clean them without damaging them, ensuring a long life for your wooden utensils.

1) Beware of water

Never leave your wooden utensils soaking in water for too long. Clean them without detergent if possible and dry them immediately after washing.

2) Avoid drying them near a heat source

This can scorch the wood and even cause it to warp. A spoon bent out of all shape and form is somewhat less useful..

3) The question of smell

Wood absorbs odours. This is why it is better to use different utensils for preparing sweet and savoury dishes.

Cleaning bamboo utensils

Clean your bamboo utensils with a damp cloth, to which you apply a little washing up liquid. Scrub and rinse well with lukewarm water to be sure all soap is removed. Wipe the utensil with care with a clean cloth. You should remove as much moisture as possible.
