Eggs are a food that we use almost on a daily basis. They have health benefits that have been known about for centuries, and we are never done finding new ways to use eggs in our recipes. But did you known that eggshells also have certain benefits for our bodies? In very small quantities, and used in various recipes, eggshells are proving their worth in terms of our health. Here are 6 original eggshell-based recipes that will have you wanting to try them out!
1/ Cold and flu syrup
You can make a syrup that fights against colds and flus by mixing eggshells, honey and lemon. It is made from 7 eggshells, the juice of 5 lemons, 2 cups (672 g) of honey and 1 litre of water. You first need to crush the eggshells into a powder. Squeeze the lemons and add the juice to the powder. Leave it to soften in the fridge and then add the honey, and stir. Wait one week, and you can use the syrup, taking a maximum of one spoon three times a day.
2/ Sensitive skin treatment
Eggshells act as an anti-inflammatory and can help with irritated or damaged skin. Take one eggshell, 62 mls of apple cider vinegar and 125 mls of water. Crush the eggshell into a powder and add the vinegar and water. Stir and leave it to sit for 24 to 48 hours. You can then soak some cotton wool in the mixture and apply it to the skin. Repeat until the skin is healed.
3/ Remedy for gastric problems
The chemical composition of eggshells means they can help regulate the pH of the stomach, and regulate gastric circulation. You can try this recipe in the case of stomach acid and abdominal pain. You need 1 eggshell, 1/4 teaspoon of coffee (around 1.2 g), 1 spoon of lemon juice (10 mls) and 1/2 a glass of milk (100 mls). Crush the eggshell into a powder, and mix it with the coffee and the lemon juice. You can consume this mixture twice a day, ideally on an empty stomach.
4/ Exfoliating treatment using eggshells
Eggshells can also help remove dead skin cells. One eggshell and the white of one egg will be necessary. As usual, crush the eggshell into a powder and mix it with the egg white. Apply this mixture to your face, and leave it to dry. Next, remove it using gentle, circular massaging movements. Repeat a maximum of twice a week.
5/ Eggshell tonic
This unusual drink can help detox the organism. Eggshells are rich in vitamins and minerals, and help detoxify the body. In order to make this tonic, you need 5 eggshells and 3 litres of water. Wash the eggshells first to remove any dirt, crush them well and pour the powder into a container with the water. Store it in the fridge for one week, and it’s ready to drink! Take a maximum of 2 glasses a day.
6/ A healing solution
The nutrients contained in eggshells help the body to heal minor skin injuries. Take one eggshell and 5 g of olive oil. Soak the eggshell in oil and apply the mixture to the cut. You need to ensure that the transparent film of the shell is in contact with the cut or the scar. You can repeat this treatment a maximum of twice a day.
