Get soft, beautiful feet using bicarbonate of soda

4/5 - (2 votes)

You could well be forgiven for leaving foot treatments go by the wayside throughout the long winter, when your feet are covered in boots and thick socks. But we are now coming into the season where sandals and flip flops are the order of the day! And suddenly you are reminded of how important it is to look after your feet, with remedies for dry, cracked heels or corns, which can build up over the colder months.

It’s also nice to have baby soft skin on your feet when you cuddle up to your other half, or sneakily use their body heat to warm up your pretty little toes! Here is a technique to look after them.

What you need:

  • 5 tablespoons of bicarbonate of soda
  • Shower gel
  • A few drops of essential oil (we recommend lavender, lemon or orange)
  • Optional: a pumice stone or a brush

Method:

1) Before you start, bathe your feet in hot water for 5 minutes, to soften the skin.

2) Make a mixture from the three ingredients, putting the bicarbonate of soda into a bowl, and gradually adding the shower gel to create a grainy paste, finally adding the drops of essential oil.

3) Scrub and massage your feet with this mixture. If the skin is very hard, use a brush or a pumice stone (but don’t scrub too hard so as not to hurt yourself).

4) Rinse and apply a nourishing moisturiser to your feet.

You can complete this treatment once a week. The bicarbonate of soda is great for exfoliating, but it also fights against odours and promotes heeling of infections or other foot ailments. Why deny yourself?
