Bananas are readily available, so don’t forget to add them to your next shopping list! In fact, according to scientists, eating 1 to 3 bananas a day could be good for your health! Bananas are a fruit that contain high quantities of potassium (around 500 mg per banana). They are equally rich in vitamins B and C, in biotin, manganese and dietary fibre (which aids digestion). Low in calories (around 100) and low in cholesterol, fat and sodium, bananas are the perfect snacking solution for people on a diet. Eating 1 to 3 bananas per day can reduce the risk of stroke and improve cardiovascular health. Bananas stimulate brain functioning and provide energy. They are also recommended for athletes before doing sport.

In summary, eating 3 bananas per day is good for you, and the benefits are numerous. Here are 8 reasons why!

1) Bananas help fight depression

Bananas are rich in tryptophan, a type of protein that the body transforms into serotonin. It relaxes the body and improves mood.

2) They are anti-stress

When you are stressed, potassium levels in your body drop. As stated above, bananas are high in potassium, which can also help regulate your heart rate.

3) Bananas relieve the symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS)

Rich in vitamin B6, bananas can have a positive impact on your mood, as their vitamin B normalises glucose levels in the body. So if you suffer from mood swings due to premenstrual syndrome, eating bananas could help.

4) They prevent constipation

Suffering from problems with digestion? Turn to bananas, which are rich in dietary fibre (containing around 3 g) and help fight against constipation.

5) Bananas help promote healthy blood pressure

Thanks to their high potassium content, bananas promote cardiovascular health. Potassium helps regulate cardiac function and the water balance in the body, and thus reduces the risk of high blood pressure and stroke.

6) They can help you stop smoking

Rich in vitamins B6 and B12, bananas can help the body recover from the withdrawal symptoms from giving up nicotine.

7) They fight aneamia

Bananas are rich in iron and contribute to stimulating the production of haemoglobin. Anaemia is an abnormality in the blood count characterised by reduced levels of haemoglobin in the blood. This lack leads to poor transport of oxygen in the blood.

8) Bananas reinforce the bones

Still due to their high potassium content, bananas help preserve and reinforce the bones. In fact, potassium reduces calcium loss in the body and therefore greatly reduces the risk of developing osteoporosis (a skeletal disease also called “brittle bones”, characterised by reduced bone density and changes in bone micro-architecture, which make the bones more fragile and more likely to fracture).
