Essential oils have wide-ranging and varied benefits, and can be used in many ways. However there are so many, that it is sometimes difficult to know where to start! Very often used in massage therapies, or diluted in vegetable oil as sprays, each has their own virtues. Here are a few ideas for using essential oils to pamper yourself, to soothe aches and pains or just to relax.
1) Lavender essential oil
Properties: anti-inflammatory, soothing, regulation of the nervous system, cardiotonic and analgesic.
This essential oil is probably the best known and the most used. It is very efficient for dealing with skin problems, respiratory problems and to ease cramps and muscle spasms. It is equally well known for adding a soothing scent to clothing or to the bath.
2) Thyme essential oil
Properties: antibacterial, anti-infection, decongestant.
Very effective for skin problems, mental and physical fatigue, and for fighting infection (viral or bacterial).
3) Lemon essential oil
Properties: antiseptic, regulation of the liver, blood thinning, purifying.
Very effective for digestive problems, it can also treat acne and oily skin, strengthen brittle nails and help with slimming and regulating the metabolism.
4) Grapefruit essential oil
Properties: antiseptic, drying out effects and digestive
It can treat skin problems, aid with digestion and with muscle cramps and stiffness. Grapefruit essential oil is also well known for reducing cellulite and water retention.
5) Cinnamon essential oil
Properties: anti-infection, immuno-booster and digestive.
Very effective for skin problems, particularly warts. Diluted in vegetable oil and massaged into the treatment zones, it is toning, antibacterial and also an insecticide. It can also reduce bloating, and improve the symptoms of colds and flus.
6) Tea tree essential oil
Properties: anti-infection, immuno-booster and decongestant
This oil is very good for fatigue, skin problems like acne, or digestive problems. It can also reduce ear, nose and throat infections like sinusitis or ear aches. .
7) Rosemary essential oil
Properties: immuno-booster, anti-fungal, decongestant
This can be used on the hair and skin, but it is mostly used to treat fatigue, colds and respiratory problems. This essential oil has a legendary reputation for curing all ills.
8) Bergamot essential oil
Properties: purifying, calming, skin regenerating
It is used mainly for treating oily skin and problems with regulating the secretion of sebum, but it is also ideal in a scented spray to bring a fresh scent to your home and to relax you.
