Plants are great as they can add a decorative feature to your home. Depending on where we decide to put them, they can make a room more homely and energetic. Some plants also have interesting properties that not everyone knows about. When there are so many house plants to chose from it can sometimes be difficult to decide what you’d like in your home. This is why we have given you a great list of five house plants to decorate your home. There are obviously many others that you can choose as well but this is a great start!
1) Rubber plants
Rubber plants or ficus plants are like a tiny tree which can grow big as well! It has lovely bright green leaves that are sometimes ribbed in an attractive yellow colour. This plant also has a super power as it can clean the air in your household. It is a real enemy for formaldehyde which is a volatile polluting molecule that can be found in houses in furniture, glue and chip board. What is more it is not difficult to look after. It is happy whether indoors as long as it has space and that it isn’t in a place where there is direct sunlight.
2) Lavender
You can smell the Mediterranean from this plant’s purple buds. Known for its pleasant aroma it also has relaxing and anti stress properties which can help relieve a head ache. It can also get rid of lice meaning it really is a perfect plant to have in a family household. There is no need to have a whole field of lavender all you need is a pot. Make sure it doesn’t drown in stagnant water as it prefers to have dry ground. You can use this plant in many ways but simply taking a few flower heads and adding them to a bath to relax or adding them to a tea infusion before heading to bed are a couple of ideas.
3) Basil
You can also count on another Mediterranean staple which is a great partner with olive oil. Its flavour is second to none when added to dishes but as well as delighting our taste buds it is also great for our immunity defenses. What is more it can also relieve a cough and a fever and great during the season of colds. Basil also contains linalool which helps to reduce stress. If you want to take as much care of this plant as it does for you, keep in a warm environment and water it regularly so it is very hydrated and exposed to the light!
4) Aloe vera to treat your skin
It is a real joy to care for a plant that requires very little water which can grow as easily in the ground as it does in a pot. If positioned close to a window but not directly exposed to sunlight either, it can deal with warm temperatures. This plant is not a little weakling but very sturdy. 5) Swiss cheese plant (Monstera Deliciosa)
Are you ready to have your own little jungle indoors? You can chose this big leaved plant which is unlike any other at cleaning and purifying your indoor air from ammoniac or even fomaldehyde. Although this plant is great for your indoor air it does require a lot of space as well as bamboo sticks to keep it growing healthily. (It the wild it grown up trees) This plant also doesn’t love cold temperatures. You therefore need to keep it in a place where the temperatures stay around 20°C. One thing to note is its sap is an irritant for humans and poisonous for animals… no one is perfect! Remember however to handle this plant carefully!
