In the morning, making the bed can create tensions within a family. Children can be a little reluctant especialy if they are not really morning people and that is it a stressful moment of the day. However, much to parents dismay studies have shown that making the bed could have detrimental effects on our health.
Dust mites are thought to cause asthma and other allergies and that is the reason why scientists try to identify the reasons why they infest certain homes more than and in which areas they are mostly concentrated. They found out that an average bed could be home to up to 1.5 million house dust mites which is clearly a lot! Moreover these mites produce allergens which are easily inhaled during sleep. However, it is interesting to note that a Kingston University study discovered that an unmade bed provides the best warm and dry conditions to prevent bugs from proliferating and be attracted to your bed.
A researcher named Dr Stephen Pretlove said that: “we know that mites can only survive by taking in water from the atmosphere using small glands on the outside of their body. Something as simple as leaving a bed unmade during the day can remove moisture from the sheets and mattress so the mites will dehydrate and eventually die.”
To put it in a nutshell, if you don’t want an army of mites in your mattress just try to be lazy 😉
