It can happen to the best of us: we are still a week away from payday, and the bank balance is looking dismal. It’s never pleasant to have to tighten your belt, financially speaking. But thanks to these 7 techniques, it doesn’t have to be painful to get to the end of the month!
1) Pay in cash rather than by bank card
It is easy to keep track of how much money you are spending when you have it on you in cash. Withdraw a certain amount at the beginning of each week, and leave your bank card to one side. This will make it easy to manage your money every week.
2) Use coupons

Try to shop strategically. On the internet, by staying on the lookout for any sort of reduction, you can stock up and save money.
3) Appoint “no spending” days

Every week, try to have one day (or more) in which you don’t spend a single euro. You will make savings in the long term.
4) Buy fresh and seasonal food

Eating local provides business to your area, but also allows you to eat fresh produce (as opposed to processed foods), to save money, and try new tastes.
5) Use natural alternatives to cleaning products

It is possible to use more natural cleaning products that are just as effective as your usual chemical products that you buy in the supermarket. Lemon, bicarbonate of soda, white vinegar, etc. All of these everyday goods allow you to keep your home spick and span without having to fork out for expensive products.
6) Take public transport rather than your car

Between servicing it, buying fuel and paying for parking, a car costs hundreds of pounds every year. A bus, tram or tube journey is better for the environment, but is also cheaper. And if you can’t face the idea of public transport, consider car sharing!
7) Replace meat with beans, chickpeas or lentils

These legumes are rich in protein, iron and minerals. They are cheaper than meat and are a great alternative for a balanced, healthy meal.
