It may be obvious, but we’ll say it anyway: you can’t clean things with dirty tools. You would never wash the dishes with a filthy sponge full of residue, or do the dusting with a cloth that is already black with dirt. However, our criteria for the cleanliness of our cleaning utensils seems to change when it comes to sweeping the floor. In fact, as time goes on, the bristles of our floor brushes become covered in dirt. Dust gets lodged in the bristles, hairs wrap around them and the dirt we brush up sticks happily in the middle.
To avoid having a nest of dirt in your floor brushes (and because there are few less pleasant tasks than removing hairs that are stuck to a dirty brush and putting them in the bin) we have a simple adjustment to make to your dustpan. You’ll be amazed that you never thought of it before!
What you need:
- A dustpan
- A wide toothed comb
- Glue (from a glue gun or just some strong glue)
Method:
1) Apply the glue to the spine of the comb.
2) Stick it to your dustpan, pressing down firmly.
3) After you have brushed the floor, run the bristles of the brush through the teeth of the comb, and watch all the dust and dirt fall into the dustpan. Your brush will end up as good as new.
