People are becoming more aware of the effects of Lyme’s disease and are starting to be more careful of tick bites.  There are even special tick removers available which help you to remove the pest in the best possible way avoiding any infection being past into your blood. However even once the tick has been removed, the bite itself can be very painful and can leave marks a few weeks after.  Always be careful to observe any changes to your bite mark even after the tick has been removed.  If you see the classic bulls eye ring mark appearing around the bite make an appointment with your doctor straight away.  However to try and avoid getting tick bites in the first place, here is a recipe for a tick spray repellent to take with you on summer walks.

What you need:

  • 9 g dried lavender
  • 9 g dried sage
  • 9 g dried thyme
  • 13 g dried rosemary
  • 15 drops of peppermint essential oil OR 5 g of dried mint
  • 950 ml of cider vinegar
  • Distilled water
  • Spray bottle

Steps:

1) Pour the vinegar in to a container (either a bottle or glass jar.)  Add the dried herbs into the bottle along with the essential oil.  Close the container and mix it well by shaking it.

2) Keep this mixture in a dark area and mix it a little each day for 2 to 3 weeks.

3)  Filter the mixture and keep it in the fridge.

4)  When you want to use the mixture mix a dose of the infused vinegar with a dose of the distilled water.  Spray this mixture onto your clothes, shoes, hat and skin avoid any contact with the face.
