Top 5 tips to get rid of smoke smells from your house

Are you fed up of having smoke smells in your house after smoker friends come round? Are you tired of hiding way to smoke in secret and then struggle to get rid of any smokey odors?  Isn’t the air healthier if there is less smoke smells in the air?  Of course the best thing to do would be to stop (here are some helpful tips) or you should send your friends onto the balcony or outside to smoke.  Nevertheless, the smell of cigarettes lingers in your house and you’d like it to go away.  Discover some great granny’s tips to get rid of bad smoke smells! 

1 – Cups of water

Fill two or three small cups of water.  Next place a soaked sponge into the centre of each cup and then place the cups into different areas around the room that is affected.  The damp sponges will managed to absorb the smell of the smoke.  It is as simple as that!

2 – Sand and mixed herbs

So that you can neutralise smells at the source you can place a little damp sand at the bottom of an ashtray with some mixed herbs.  The sand will stamp out the cigarette butts while the mixed herbs will get rid of the bad smell.

3 – Ammonia salts

Place two or three cups containing a tablespoon of ammonia salts and little essential oil (Your choice of perfume) in various places around the affected room.  Ammonia is a very strong and powerful product so make sure than your don’t put too much and that they are in places out of reach of children.

4. Orange peel

Burn some pre-dried orange or mandarin peel so as to prevent your curtains becoming impregnated with the smell of smoke.  You can also place the orange peels on working radiators so the smell can spread more quickly.

5 – Bicarbonate of soda and lemon juice

Mix a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda in a large bowl of hot water and add a couple of drops of lemon juice.  Next spray this mixture onto your curtains, carpets and other materials.
