Many people use bay leaves, or laurel nobilis, in cooking to add a Mediterranean flavour to their dishes. These leaves were once used for medicinal purposes, and their properties have proven their worth! Bay laurel acts as an anti-inflammatory and thus reduces pain. It can also be used in many other ways, and depending on the use, it has soothing and calming properties. The eucalyptol present in bay laurel can free up the airways, but it can also relax them. These properties thus have a beneficial effect on blood pressure and can relieve sleeping difficulties.

How to make the most of bay leaves’ health benefits?

You need only 10 minutes to enjoy all the health benefits of bay leaves. In order to do so, you need a few bay leaves, some matches and a heat-resistant container.

Place the bay leaves into the container, and bring them into the largest and best ventilated room in your home. Light the leaves with the matches (a lighter will also do the trick). A pleasant fragrance will be released and you will quickly feel the benefits. As the leaves burn, the vapour released will have a relaxing, calming, and soothing effect. All of your muscles will suddenly feel relaxed!

You can use this technique in the middle of the afternoon, while reading a book, or in the evening before going to bed. You can expect a night of restful and peaceful sleep afterwards! However, be alert to the risk of fire, and you need to keep an eye on the burning of the leaves, and never leave the lighting container unsupervised.
